Tebabu Assefa and Sara Mussie (husband & wife team) have adopted the Benefit Corporation (BC) social business model and philosophy to formulate a three-part enterprises (3PE), a social business development and marketing infrastructure. BC is a pioneering legislation first signed into law in 2010 by the state of Maryland (MD) and sponsored by current US Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD), then a MD state senator. It is a hybrid of for-profit and nonprofit models that aims for community benefits as well as profits. Now the law in 33 states including California, New York and DC, BC aims to leverage the power of business to address the most pressing and urgent social, economic and environmental challenges.
